Food Safety

Food safety training is a requirement for anyone wanting to work in the commercial food industry. Prior knowledge of safe food handling and preparation are kye considerations for potential employers.     Food safety skills are essental in a range of areas including restaurants, cafe's, food processing plants and supermarkets.   The Learning Place has been delivering Food Safety training for many years and offers a range of options for different levels of food preparation.   

In line with the COVID 19 Protection Framework, all public learners will be expected to produce their vaccine pass as a condition of entry into the course. This ensures that we can provide a safe learning environment for all. Those who are unable to produce this evidence will not be able to attend a face-to-face course.  

Food Safety Basic 

Practise food safety methods in a food business under supervision.
Unit Standard 167 - Level 2 - Credits 4

Food Safety Basic is a hands on exploration of the basic principles of food safety in a commercial food business. Learners will gain knowledge about a range of food safety practices including safe storage, personal hygiene, temperature controls and prevention of cross contamination.

The Food Safety Basic course meets the legal requirement for staff training under the Food Act (2014) and prepares learners for work in a commercial food businesses.

Food Safety Advanced

Demonstrate knowledge of food contamination hazards and control methods used in a food establishment. 
Unit Standard 168 - Level 3 - Credits 4

Food Safety Advanced is ideal for those who have completed basic training and wish to take on management or leadership roles in a commercial food environment. The course covers different forms of food contamination, HACCP plans and best practice methods. This course is delivered as a self-paced learning resource with a short tutorial and assessment.
